After complaints, “Destiny 2” Instantly Transforms Into The Light Weapon Timegating

When Bungie revealed that the free Into the Light content will roll out with half of its reprised “greatest hits” weapons, the Destiny 2 community reacted angrily. The second half would be time-gated to launch one week later, and so on for six more weeks.

A little over 24 hours later, Bungie reconsidered their stance and implemented a number of changes they believed would allay player worries about loot.

  • Although it is somewhat less often, timegating is still present. Instead of six weeks, all of the guns will be released in three, meaning two new ones every week. It will take more than a month to produce limited edition variations, as opposed to the two or three weeks required for the final modifications.
  • According to their statement, “fresh rewards” will be provided during the first half of the event, while additional playable material, including an exotic task, will be added during the second half.
  • They stress again that the Shaxx dealer Arcite has a weekly quest that ensures you’ll get one limited-edition rarity of every one of the twelve guns before the event ends and the editions disappear. The possible rates of limited edition drops in the wild are currently unknown.
  • According to them, there will be a plethora of loot for this, wherein a 50-wave run would yield numerous copies of your targeted weapon. While Season of Opulence’s chest was hacked, players would receive 5–9 duplicates of a weapon per run, which is equivalent to this.
  • Additional drops can be obtained by feeding cash into a weapon chest.
  • Since Onslaught will still be around after The Final Shape, they restate that all twelve weapons can be farmed; the only ones you won’t be able to get are the ornamental ones. The idea that these weapons will only be available for a limited time of two months appears to have been lost in translation for some players.

Thus, I find this to be satisfactory. Even while there is some time spent grinding and earning special edition weapons, I don’t think it’s timegating at all and can now stop whining about it.

I suppose it’s Bungie’s fault that some players would still skip week one if their preferred weapons aren’t available, but that’s just my opinion.

Aside from Into the Light and these (very power-crept) vintage weaponry, we still have one more showcase to look forward to, which should unveil new Crucible maps (where Onslaught will most likely occur) and some strange mission-related stuff. Tuesday will reveal all.
